khushwant singh always lampooned that the only culture india had was agriculture.

post-nandigram ...i have a crop of questions

a]should we sacrifice agriculture for the sake of chemical/car hubs.

b]can't we put our heart and soul and make agriculture techno-savvy , remunerative and on par with other industries?

i remember a story i read 15 years ago. 

a group of israelis were on a visit to mumbai and as they sat in the 5 star hotel lounge,they eyed the fountain and hey pressto! -they were ready with the calculation "this fountain can irrigate so-n-so acres"

the israelis have shown miracles in their agriculture methods.

i pray that khushwant is right about india.
